Noosa Mayor Bob Abbot says: Leave Sunshine Coast alone
Intentionally taken out of context

Noosa visitors probably will leave the Sunshine Coast alone if our Council doesn't see the necessity to improve our "rubbish reputation".

Saturday 26.12.2009, the "Editor" decided to enjoy a short stroll through Noosa Heads before the town turns too busy.

What a moment as he arrived at the heart of this great location. A whole army could park their vehicles without paying any tickets which is absolutely rare for Noosa. Only a hand full of visitors walked around at 6 pm. Most restaurants had been closed. Has Noosa turned into a ghost town? The car park next to the "Life Savers" was nearly empty. I asked myself, is this the reaction of Bob´s warning "Leave the Sunshine Coast alone". Sorry Bob, I have taken your words out of context.

I decided to walk along the new eye catching broad walk. After some steps something much more eye catching got my attention.
Bob, look at the attached photo. This saves me to find the right words. End of the day and still the "same rubbish".
Early next day it was still the same. Passing people have been very disgusted about the lack of serve. Curious as I am, I drove through Noosa Woods. The second photo shows the situation there. Opposite the road the same situation. Some minutes later, a council worker turned up. His job was to clean up the litter dropped by people along the walk ways. I asked him if the present situation is unusual? No, this is the typical situation mainly on Sundays and Holidays. Some of the Cleanaway drivers don´t turn up. If he has time, his does the cleanup job. I asked him if there are only 2 forgotten bins in Noosa Woods? No, in his cleaning area is another spot (closer to the beach) where the situation is much worse. He told me that our Council asked the cleaner to send an email to the Council and report similar circumstances. Unfortunately there is no service improvement, he said.
Compared to the rubbish situation in Napoli I shouldn't complain.

How to enjoy a nice cool swim in a Council Water Storage Tank!

Some weeks ago I published a report about the new $ 60.000 $ roof on an older Council water storage tank at Collwood Road/Gumboil Road (Lake Macdonald). We taxpayer had to come forward with this kind of money for a 1000 sqm roof. This is 3 times more than a common roof. Now you think this must be a very special roof. Wrong.

Last week some boys found a simple way to go on the top of the tank. This wouldn't be a reason to write about this adventure. These boys have been driven by the desire to have a nice swim in our drinking water supply. Obviously it wasn't a problem to remove a short section of the new roof, big enough to slide in the water and have a good time.

Let's hope the cold water didn't trigger a certain bodily reaction. Just the idea is disgusting. Have you found anything mentioned in our local news papers? I haven't. The question is, how safe is our drinking water?

Last year I had a long discussion with a now retired Councilor about planting trees and shrubs to camouflage the water tank. I was told this can't be done because of safety reasons (terror attack). I think we are lucky that this person has retired. This is not only my personal conviction. Every person I spook about this couldn't belief it. You must understand that at least 50 % of the tank area are surrounded by trees and shrubs. To blow off the tank you don't have to do it from the passing road.
This former councilor was concerned about the falling leaves and branches it we plant new trees and shrubs. Obviously he forgot all the huge trees around the back of the water tank Sorry for this long explanation.

These boys have shown us how easy it is to gain access to our drinking water. They are "just boys" and no terrorists. How easy must it be for disgruntled people to do harm to the rest of us?

Discriminating pool rego fee

How long is the Multi council going to discriminate the charge paid by Noosa Residents with the Swimming Pool REGISTRATION FEE ON RATES?
Why is this charge (sorry) levy not charged across the Council area?
Why does just one third of the shire pay the levy?

Call to clean up roads

Call to clean up roads

As entrance statements go to Noosa, the drive in along Noosa-Eumundi Road is being trashed according to Doonan resident Murray Hopping.

He said from the Beckmans Road roundabout out to the Sunshine Coast council refuse tip, the roadside was usually strewn with loads of rubbish which had fallen off the backs of dump-bound vehicles.

And a frustrated Mr Hopping said while the initial responsibility should be getting tip-users to secure their loads properly, he could not find an authority prepared to take responsibility for cleaning up the renegade rubbish.

“I contacted the council a while back and they said that the roadside is a matter for Main Roads and Main Roads said they only handle the roadside slashing,” Mr Hopping said.

And the very mention of slashing is enough to drive Mr Hopping mad - because he said whenever the slashers did their handiwork the result was a bigger shredded mess.

He said all manner of objects ended up along the road including mattresses.

“It is a terrible entrance statement for Noosa - I don't think (mayor) Bob Abbot would allow that sort of thing in Hastings Street, so why do we have to put up with it along this road?”

He suggested a special clean-up might be arranged and the collected junk be put in an industrial bin with a sign saying this litter was left along our roadways.

John Netherton, manager of civil works services for the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, said council was aware there was a chronic litter problem along this stretch of road and believed it was mainly caused by vehicles transporting uncovered loads.

“Although this is a Main Roads Department road, council staff currently schedule four to five clean-ups per year, with the next clean-up scheduled for the end of September. We attempt to schedule these clean-ups around important events, or the level of litter,” he said.

“Each clean-up is labour intensive, as council staff must walk the stretch of road, hand picking the litter, which takes around three days.”

He said residents and visitors should understand the importance of covering refuse transferred to landfill.

Another Council stunt

The following has been brought to the editors attention.

About 2 years ago, a property owner at Clearview Road called a prof. tree remover to inspect a rubber tree next to his drive way. As everyone knows the worst neighbour you can have is a rubber tree. The property owner was worried about his bitumen drive way because there was a clear sgin that the roots are close to his drive way and a brick wall.

The roots have been trimmed back and the same happened with the tree. Some days later he received a NSC letter where he was thretened with legal action in case he would continue doing further damage to the tree.

Last week (2 years later) Council worker turned up and chopped down nearly the whole tree. And.....they poisoned the tree.

There is no need for further comment.
